In February 2012 my husband and I were vacationing in the Dominican Republic with our daughters when we were moved in our hearts to raise funds for children to learn English and to help widows become self sufficient. As soon as we arrived back in Canada our feet hit the pavement running and we instantly experienced the generosity of our neighbours and friends. It is truly amazing what a few dedicated people can do when we come together with one heart. Thanks to all of those who see the need and continually meet it. Our motto is "a hand up, not a hand out."
In July 2013 we did our 2nd annual fund raising event (selling potato latkes) at The Atlin Arts and Music Festival. We raised approximately $700.oo.
In 2014 we were able to assist one widow in setting up a used clothing store, and supplied a second widow with a sewing machine and material to make handbags. We were also able to find monthly support for another widow with two teenage daughters.
We have continued with our monthly support for three widows in 2015 and 2016. We have also sent funds to help a teenage orphan girl who has been in a desperate situation.
Thanks to all those folks who have been so generous with their monthly donations!
